Zum Launch von Windows Phone 8 hatten bekanntermaßen die drei Hardwarehersteller Nokia, Samsung und HTC ihre Geräte am Start, doch auch andere OEMs planen bereits ihr Portfolio mit WP8 Smartphones zu erweitern. Unter anderem soll die chinesische Firma ZTE ein Telefon mit riesigem 5,9″ Full-HD-Display in der Mache haben.

Vom “head of market strategy” bei ZTE, Lu Qian Hao, stammt obenstehendes Bild eines vermeintlich bislang unbekannten Smartphones in zwei Farbvariationen, schwarz und weiß. Versprochen wird hier im gleichen Post ein Display mit einer Auflösung von 1080p – dazu gleich noch mehr.

Das Gerücht bestätigt wie so oft via Twitter der in der Regel recht gut informierte “The MS nerd”, weclher ein “ZTE Blade 8″ verspricht, das offensichtlich dem Samsung Galaxy Note den Markt streitig machen soll. Dies wird durch den Tweet insofern angedeutet, als dass Microsoft angeblich für die Windows Phone Versionen von OneNote, Internet Explorer und den neuen PDF-Reader Unterstützung für Stifteingabe plane.

Doch wie plausibel ist das Ganze?

Zurück zur Auflösung

Das Display soll 1080p unterstützen, obwohl diese Bildschrimauflösung nach aktuellem Stand in Windows Phone 8 zumindest in Sachen Appentwicklung überhaupt nicht vorgesehen ist. Diesbezüglich erklärt “The MS nerd”, dass in diesem Fall “3 Pixel als 2″ gezählt werden. Mit 2/3 der Auflösung von Full-HD würde man also bei den inzwischen unterstützen 720p landen. Ob dies problemlos geht und vor allem Kanten dann noch scharf wirken ist schwer zu sagen.

Die Fotos sehen bekannt aus

Ignoriert man die ganzen technischen Details gibt es dennoch weitere Punkte, die für Zweifel an der ganzen Geschichte sorgen. Denn schaut man sich das veröffentlichte Foto an, so wirken die Telefone neben dem Kugelschreiber und dem Block keineswegs besonders groß. Es sei denn es handelt sich hier um einen sehr großen Stift.

Außerdem sehen die beiden abgelichteten Phones verdächtig wie das ZTE Tania aus, welches bereits seit einiger Zeit mit Windows Phone 7.5 auf dem Markt ist.

Die Telefone auf dem Foto sind also wohl eher nicht das ominöse “ZTE Blade 8″. Das heißt allerdings nicht, dass es nicht existiert.

Was meint ihr? Sehen wir bald einen Galaxy-Note-Konkurrenzen mit WP8 oder ist die ganze Sache eher Wunschdenken?

Im Rahmen des MWC hat auch ZTE ein neues Windows Phone mit dem namen “Orbit” vorgestellt, welches genau wie das Nokia Lumia 610 im günstigen Preissegment angesiedelt ist. Ausgeliefert wird es mit “Windows Phone Tango II”, was wohl bestätigt, dass es zwei Varianten des Tango Updates geben wird – eines für die bisherigen Geräte und eine abgespeckte Variante für Low-End Telefone. Ein weiterer interessanter Punkt ist, dass in dem Gerät ein NFC-Chip verbaut wird. Wie und wann dieser genutzt werden kann, ist allerdings unklar. Schade ist, dass das Gerät lediglich 4GB internen Speicher besitzt, wovon dem User gerade mal 2,4GB übrig bleiben.

Das Phone wird in 2. Quartal 2012 ausgeliefert, ob und wann es nach Deutschland kommt ist noch unklar.

ZTE Orbit joins Windows Phone smartphone offerings

27 February 2012, London, UK – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has expanded on its commitment to the Windows Phone platform and introduced the new ZTE Orbit smartphone.

The ZTE Orbit joins the ZTE Tania smartphone in the company’s portfolio of Windows Phone-based devices. The ZTE Tania is commercially available in the UK and Sweden and other countries around the world.

“Microsoft is excited to continue partnering with ZTE to bring new Windows Phones to market.  We look forward to the availability of ZTE Orbit in major markets around the world in the second quarter of 2012,” said Mark Linton, Senior Director of the OEM Division, Microsoft.

The ZTE Orbit is based on the latest version of Windows Phone and comes with 4GB of memory, HD Voice, and a 5Mpx autofocus camera with LED flash. The ZTE Orbit will be available in the second quarter of this year.

At the same time, ZTE announced the MF668A data card which takes advantage of Microsoft’s Mobile Broadband Class Driver in Windows 8. ZTE’s MF668A data card is being demonstrated at Mobile World Congress for the first time. The data card, which supports RAW IP and high-speed transmission, is based on the new MBIM v1.0 specification, recently approved by the USB-IF, and natively supported in Windows 8 without additional software.

Launched on 18 January, the ZTE Tania is a chic Windows Phone device, with a chassis measuring just 10.7mm in depth, 4GB internal storage and a 4.3 inch touch screen. The 1GHz processor and ultra-sharp cinematic WVGA 800 x 480px screen make responding to emails, editing documents and browsing the internet fast and intuitive. The first Windows Phone-powered smartphone launched by ZTE, the ZTE Tania is expected to be available in stores in the UK in early April at tariff points in the £10-20 range.

The full portfolio of ZTE Windows Phone devices is being demonstrated at Mobile World Congress at the ZTE booth (Hall 8, Stand B145).

Eher unerwartet hat Microsoft heute, am 2. Tag der “Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference” in Los Angeles, vier der Geräte gezeigt, die im Herbst auf den Markt kommen sollen. Zunächst gab es je ein Gerät von Acer, Fujitsu und ZTE zu sehen, kurz darauf wurde noch eines von Samsung präsentiert. Letzteres ist besonders interessant, da dieses dem Galaxy S II enorm ähnlich sieht. Noch wichtiger allerdings ist, dass eine nach vorn gerichtete Kamera deutlich zu sehen ist, was wohl die Vermutung, das Videotelefonie in Mango kommen soll, endgültig bestätigt.
